Position Scope 

The Safety Specialist is the on-site professional responsible for assisting in the implementation, monitoring, and enforcement of the company’s safety policies and procedures. This role ensures compliance with company policies, as well as relevant federal, state, and local safety laws and regulations.

Location & Travel: Onsite in Timberville, VA. This is a 100% travel-based position, with project assignments typically lasting between 1 to 10 months. In addition to your base pay, you’ll receive a daily per diem to assist with living expenses while on assignment. This role includes regular rotational travel home from the job site. A company vehicle will also be provided.  

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement and administer safety programs at each worksite, assist project management in developing site-specific safety programs, and conduct safety orientation and training.
  • Ensure that safety protocols are followed by all employees and contractors on-site. 
  • Regularly monitor work areas and teams to assess safety compliance and identify potential hazards.  
  • Assist with any OSHA inspections.  
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings for project. 
  • Share Current Metrics, trends and mitigations for project.  
  • Responsible for project needs for safety supplies.
  • Provide training to employees on safety practices
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations and ensure the organization is compliant. 
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure workplace safety standards are being met.
  • Communicate with client/ owner safety representative. 
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings for project. 
  • Other duties and responsibilities assigned.
  • You are on one project but also expected to assist with documents and PPE on other projects per CM request.

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, or related field preferred
  • One year of construction industry experience/knowledge of construction safety procedures. 
  • Previous experience in a site safety role preferred
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with medium and/ or high voltage substations, collection systems, or transmission lines preferred 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Take reasonable care of yourself and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward the goal of zero injuries. 
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership, motivate workers and communicate with workers and superiors. 
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office email, internet, Excel spreadsheets, all documents, photos, and field time entry, as well as PACK Power’s documentation. 
  • Ability to work well under pressure and within timelines. 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents like safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. 
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
