Position Scope

Responsible for operating directional boring equipment to install underground conduit in accordance with project specifications, safety standards, and utility regulations.

Location & Travel: This is an on-site position based in Spring Grove, VA.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate directional drilling/boring equipment to install underground conduit systems for electrical construction.
  • Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and utility maps to determine bore paths and equipment setup.
  • Coordinate with utility locators to avoid existing underground services.
  • Set up and break down boring equipment, including locating and tracking systems.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of boring equipment and support vehicles.
  • Monitor bore path and depth using locate tracking systems.
  • Work closely with foremen, and electrical teams to ensure bore alignments meet required tolerances.
  • Ensure safe work practices are followed at all times in accordance with OSHA and company policies.
  • Maintain detailed logs and documentation of bore paths, depths, and installed conduit.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on boring machines and tools.
  • Troubleshoot problems that arise during the boring process and propose solutions.

Education and Work Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training preferred.
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience operating directional boring equipment in utility or civil construction environments.
  • Experience working in or around renewable projects is highly preferred.
  • Experience working in the Virginia – Maryland region with an understanding of the soil types to be encountered
  • Experience with drilling extended bores of up to 1500 linear foot
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred) with a clean driving record.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Familiarity with bore tracking systems and underground utility locating.
  • Knowledge of trenchless technology, utility separation requirements.
  • Ability to interpret utility drawings and site plans.
